Australian Bushfire Travel Advice

Our thoughts are with our fellow Australians in bushfire-affected communities at this extremely difficult time. We feel very fortunate that the Whitsundays region remained unaffected by the current bushfires, and would like to assure you that our resort is operating as usual.  We’d like to address common questions we are receiving in relation around the current situation in Australia.

Will the bushfires affect my trip to Hayman Island?

We are grateful that the Whitsundays region has not been impacted by the current bushfires and is safe for travel. All international airports and our transfer services from Hamilton Island Airport are running as usual.

I am visiting other destinations on my trip to Hayman Island, and I’m not sure if I should travel.

A vast majority of destinations in Australia remain safe and continue to welcome visitors. You can find the latest advice and updates at the Tourism Australia bushfire information page here:

As Australia recovers from the bushfire crisis, it will be more important than ever to support Australian tourism providers, in the months and years to come, and the best way to support Australian communities is to keep visiting.

If you cannot travel to an affected area due to bushfires, we’d encourage you to reschedule instead of cancel your planned trip in order to support those communities in the coming months.

How is InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) supporting relief efforts?

As part of one of the world’s largest leading hotel companies, InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), our resort will join the group’s many individual properties across the region to create stronger and wider fundraising efforts across Australia.

IHG has already made a significant donation to the Australian Red Cross to help support their efforts, and as a Resort, we will be activating local fundraising initiatives to add to this donation in the coming weeks.

IHG will also be helping with what we do best – hospitality – by providing room blocks to house displaced people and volunteers. The teams at National Convention Centre and Crowne Plaza Canberra also provided 500 meals for our partner OzHarvest to deliver to people in need in Bega.

How can I stay up to date?

We encourage all travellers visiting Australia to seek the most up-to-date information for their planned itinerary prior to departure and during their travels at
