Marine Stinger Season
Between November and May each year, the weather conditions and warmer water temperatures in the Whitsundays mean that marine stingers (jellyfish) are prevalent in the water. The two main types of stingers are Irukandji and Box Jellyfish. By taking simple precautions to minimise risk, you can safely and comfortably swim in all parts of the Whitsundays region. When snorkelling, diving, or swimming in the water, protective ‘stinger suits’ will be available to all guests at no cost and are highly recommended to be worn.
If you do happen to get stung by a marine stinger:
- Do not rub the sting area
- Seek immediate assistance from our water activities staff or a Hayman Island staff member
